Specifications

Kern 766 F1 Radish is an edible root vegetable. It is cultivated for its crisp, peppery-flavored roots, which come in various shapes, sizes, and colors. Radishes are widely grown and consumed worldwide, appreciated for their versatility in culinary applications and relatively short growing period.

Character

Agronomy

Radish is a fast-growing, cool-season vegetable crop cultivated for its edible root. Radish seeds are relatively easy to grow and can be sown directly into the ground in both home gardens and commercial farms.

Soil Preparation:

1. Soil Type: Radishes thrive in well-drained, loose soil rich in organic matter.
2. pH Level: Aim for a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
3. Soil Testing: Conduct soil tests to assess nutrient levels and pH, amending the soil as necessary with organic matter or fertilizers.

Planting:

1. Timing: Plant radish seeds in early spring or late summer for best results. Radishes prefer cooler temperatures for germination and growth.
2. Spacing: Sow seeds thinly in rows spaced approximately 12-18 inches apart.
3. Depth: Plant seeds at a depth of 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the soil.
4. Sunlight: Radishes require full sun exposure for optimal growth.

Watering:

1. Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist throughout the growing season.
2. Watering Schedule: Water radish plants deeply but infrequently, aiming to provide around 1 inch of water per week.

Kern 766 is a white hybrid radish — clean white, straight and uniform, ready in 40–50 days, and able to stand in the field after maturity so you are not forced to sell on a bad day.

The crop

  • Maturity: 40–50 days
  • Root: pure white, smooth, straight — 10–12 inches, 250–400 grams
  • Uniformity: even size and shape, so bundles grade well and sell faster
  • Seed: supplied pre-treated — no separate treatment needed
  • Pack sizes: 50 gm and 250 gm

It waits in the field

This is the trait worth understanding. After maturing, Kern 766 holds in the ground for roughly 12–15 days without going pithy inside — observed in an October trial. That means if the mandi is down on the day your crop matures, you can wait and pick a better day.

Honest caveat: that window is condition-dependent. In warmer weather it is shorter.

Sowing window

Late August to mid-October. This is the window that gives the cleanest roots, and early crops catch the better rates.

Sowing past November brings a real risk of bolting — the plant throws flower stalks and the root never forms properly. This happens with any brand's seed in the wrong window, which is why we would rather tell you the window than sell you a packet in the wrong month.

Two things that protect root quality

  • Zinc and boron, applied on time, help prevent red blotch and cracking
  • Avoid raw, undecomposed FYM — it causes black and forked roots

Root maggot and flea beetle are real pests at root stage and need field management. Seed treatment gives an early head-start but does not stop mature root maggot — we say that plainly rather than let you find out later.
