Character

Agronomy

Radish is a fast-growing, cool-season vegetable crop cultivated for its edible root. Radish seeds are relatively easy to grow and can be sown directly into the ground in both home gardens and commercial farms.

Soil Preparation:

1. Soil Type: Radishes thrive in well-drained, loose soil rich in organic matter.
2. pH Level: Aim for a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH between 6.0 and 7.0.
3. Soil Testing: Conduct soil tests to assess nutrient levels and pH, amending the soil as necessary with organic matter or fertilizers.

Planting:

1. Timing: Plant radish seeds in early spring or late summer for best results. Radishes prefer cooler temperatures for germination and growth.
2. Spacing: Sow seeds thinly in rows spaced approximately 12-18 inches apart.
3. Depth: Plant seeds at a depth of 1/4 to 1/2 inch in the soil.
4. Sunlight: Radishes require full sun exposure for optimal growth.

Watering:

1. Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist throughout the growing season.
2. Watering Schedule: Water radish plants deeply but infrequently, aiming to provide around 1 inch of water per week.

Kern 762 is a heat-tolerant F1 radish bred for the off-season — the warm shoulder months and the monsoon, when ordinary radish bolts and never forms a root.

When to sow — and when not to

  • Sow: February to mid-April (spring), and July to October (monsoon and post-monsoon). These are the windows where good radish is scarce and rates are strong
  • Do not sow: peak heat, roughly mid-May to mid-June, when day temperatures cross 42°C

Radish germinates well between about 15°C and 29°C, and the germination ceiling is around 33–35°C soil temperature. Above that, no radish seed germinates reliably — heat-tolerant or not. That is the weather, not the seed. If you must sow in this period, sow in the evening, irrigate lightly and frequently, and use mulch.

The crop

  • Maturity: roughly 35–40 days to mandi-ready
  • Root: straight white daikon type, smooth skin, around 25–35 cm
  • Uniformity: being F1, roots come even in size and colour, so grading is easy and the lot sells faster
  • Bolting: risk is reduced in warm and wet weather because this is season-right seed, not old or home-saved seed
  • Seed: supplied pre-treated — no separate seed treatment needed at your end
  • Pack size: 100 gm — sized for one staggered plot

How growers use it

Sow in staggered lots 15–20 days apart so harvesting rolls through the off-season window rather than arriving all at once.

Two honest limits
