Agronomy

Soil and Climate Requirements:

Fastart Multicut Berseem prefers well-drained soils with good fertility.
It grows best in regions with a temperate climate, thriving in temperatures between 15°C to 25°C.
Seedbed Preparation:

Prepare a fine, level seedbed to facilitate uniform germination and emergence.
Planting Time and Depth:

Sow Fastart Multicut Berseem seeds during the early fall or late winter.
Plant seeds at a depth of about 1 to 2 centimeters.
Row Spacing and Seed Rate:

Maintain row spacing of 30 to 45 centimeters to allow for proper growth.
Recommended seed rate ranges from 15 to 20 kilograms per hectare.
Fertilization:

Apply fertilizers based on soil test results and crop requirements.
Nitrogen-rich fertilizers are often applied to promote leafy growth.

Fastart (Kern 201) is a premium berseem for Rabi green fodder — fresh, clean, kasni-free seed that comes already treated with Rhizobium culture. Sown once, it feeds through the whole winter.

Cutting schedule

  • First cut: about 55–60 days from timely sowing (late or heat-affected sowing can push this to 70–90 days)
  • Subsequent cuts: every 25–30 days
  • Total: 5–6 cuts, November through May — late sowing costs you 1–2 cuts
  • Green fodder: up to 200–250 quintal per acre at the upper end with good management
  • Crude protein: around 17% and above — animals eat it readily

Sowing

  • Window: mid-September through November, stretching into early December if needed. October (around 25°C) is best — the earlier and more timely the sowing, the more cuts you take
  • Seed rate: 8 kg per acre for timely sowing on a well-prepared field; 8–10 kg for late, broadcast or low-moisture conditions
  • Soil: well-drained loam to clay loam, neutral to slightly alkaline. Not suitable for usar or saline-sodic land
  • Pack size: 1 kg

Rhizobium-treated seed

Kern 201 ships pre-treated with Rhizobium culture, so no separate seed treatment is needed at your end. This gives:

  • Better and quicker germination — valuable in fields where berseem has not been grown before
  • Faster root development and stronger early growth
  • Biological nitrogen fixation in your own field, reducing urea dependence
  • Residual soil fertility that carries over to the following crop

Please note: Rhizobium supports establishment and nitrogen fixation. It is not a disease treatment.
