Kern 171 Toria Mustard
Kern 171 is a toria (Brassica rapa) grown first and foremost for saag — tender mustard greens — with grain as an optional second income for farmers who can leave the crop standing.
Where it fits in your rotation
- Sowing window: 1 September – 10/15 October
- Best suited to: the early-vacating kharif field, sown ahead of wheat
- Field turnaround: the saag crop clears the field in time for timely wheat sowing

- Saag (primary): harvested green as tender leaves — the main use for most growers
- Grain (optional): suits the late-wheat farmer who sows wheat in December–January and can leave toria to seed maturity
